Hello,
I’m Laura from MGJV — the contractor working on the Southern Water Southampton Link Main Project.
As a local community group likely to use the footpaths and bridleways in the area, I wanted to share some information about upcoming temporary closures and diversions around Compton & Shawford and Olivers Battery.
I’ve attached a letter explaining the planned works, along with the official closure notice from Hampshire County Council. I would be grateful if you could kindly share this with your community members.
If you have any questions or need further details, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
Thanks so much,
Laura

"We’ve begun construction on a new water pipeline, the Southampton Link Main, which will connect Otterbourne Supply Works with Yew Hill and Rownhams Service Reservoirs.
This project is a vital step in strengthening the resilience of our local water network.
What happens next?
As part of the project, we’ll be increasing the capacity of Yew Hill Service Reservoir. This important work is scheduled to start in October 2025 and will continue through to 2027.
To support this, we’re building a temporary access road to Yew Hill. This will allow construction equipment and vehicles to reach the site without using the residential section of Hurdle Way, helping to minimise disruption to residents.
How will this affect you?
• Construction of the temporary access road has already begun and is expected to take a further 15 weeks, with work taking place Monday to Friday, from 7:30am to 5:00pm.
• For everyone’s safety, we will temporarily close the following footpaths and bridleways:
• Part of Compton and Shawford Footpath 3
• Compton and Shawford Bridleways 2, 6 & 8
• Part of Olivers Battery Bridleway 6
• You may notice more construction vehicles in the area during this time.
